Plan to Focus™

Your life deserves systems too.

You can be brilliant at work and still have laundry on the chair, three appointments you forgot to schedule, a text you meant to answer four days ago, and absolutely no idea what you’re eating for dinner.

That does not mean you are bad at life.

It means your life needs systems too.

And most of us were never taught how to build them.

Plan to Focus™ is where we learn how to create systems for the parts of life that matter, so everything is not constantly competing for whatever time, energy, and attention you have left.

The myth

Work-life balance is a myth.

You do not have a work life and a real life.

You have one life.

Work lives inside of it.

Work Family Home Rest Health Finances Friends Service Appointments The people you love

There will be seasons when work needs more of you.

There will be seasons when your family does.

Sometimes your health needs more attention. Sometimes your finances do.

Sometimes you need to go outside, laugh with your friends, watch the show, take the trip, or do absolutely nothing useful for a minute.

The goal was never to keep every area perfectly balanced.

The goal is to have enough structure that one demanding season does not make everything else fall apart.

The science

Your brain was never supposed to be the storage system for your life.

Think about how much you ask yourself to remember every day.

Call the dentist
Pay that bill
Reply to that email
Order the thing
Schedule the appointment
Check on your mom
Finish the project
Pick up groceries
Figure out dinner
Remember what your child needs Thursday
Do the thing you forgot last Tuesday

And while you are trying to remember all of that, you are also trying to think, make decisions, solve problems, and focus.

That is a lot to ask of your attention.

What the science tells us

01

Working memory has limits.1

Your brain can only actively hold and work with so much information at once.

02

Switching costs attention.2

Moving from one task to another requires your brain to reorient. Even when the switch is quick, it is not free.

03

External reminders can reduce memory demands.3

Calendars, reminders, lists, routines, and other external systems give your brain somewhere else to store what needs to happen.

04

Repeated routines can require less conscious effort.4

When a useful action becomes familiar and repeatable, you do not have to rebuild the decision from scratch every time.

Held in your head

Everything, all at once

The dentist That bill The email Thursday Dinner Groceries Last Tuesday

Held by a system

Somewhere outside your head

Reminder
List
Routine
Owner

That is why a good system can feel like relief.

Your brain simply has fewer things to keep carrying.

The systems shift

You do not need more motivation.

You need fewer things depending on motivation.

If groceries only happen when you finally remember...
If bills get paid when they become urgent...
If your workout depends on whether the day goes according to plan...
If important relationships only get your attention when everything else slows down...
If every Sunday night starts with, “Okay, what do I have going on this week?”

you are asking yourself to recreate the same decisions over and over.

A system says

We already decided how this works.

When groceries happen. Where appointments live. How bills get handled. When you reset the house. What happens when the week gets crazy. Who owns what. What you do not need to think about again.

That is the point.

Designed for real life

Systems are not about making your life rigid.

They are about making room for your life.

I know. The word systems can sound like somebody is about to give you a color-coded spreadsheet and tell you to wake up at 5:00 a.m.

No.

If that works for you, wonderful.

If it does not, we are not doing that.

All systems are not created equal.

The system has to fit the person using it.

Because a beautiful system you will never use is just another thing making you feel behind.

It has to fit
Your passion.
Your responsibilities.
Your energy.
Your family.
Your season.
Your priorities.
Your actual life.

Your whole life

There are seven systems quietly running your life.

Whether you designed them intentionally or not.

01

Home & Family

How your home runs, how responsibilities get handled, and how the people who share your life stay connected and cared for.

02

Personal Care

How you make room for your body, mind, rest, appointments, routines, and the things that help you feel like yourself.

03

Social Connection

How you maintain relationships instead of constantly saying, “We really need to get together.”

04

Passion & Hobby

The things you do because you enjoy them. Not because they make money. Not because they build your brand. Because you like them.

05

Work or Business

How you manage the work that matters without letting it consume every available part of your life.

06

Service & Impact

How you make room for the causes, communities, ministries, and people you feel called to serve.

07

Financial & Future Planning

How you manage today while preparing for the life you want later.

These are the Seven Essential Life Systems™.

And when one of them consistently has no structure, another part of your life usually pays for it.

Why focus feels hard

Everything feels important when nothing has a place.

01

You sit down to work and remember the laundry.

02

You start cleaning and remember the email.

03

You answer the email and realize you forgot the appointment.

04

You schedule the appointment and somehow end up researching vacation rentals.

Now it is 4:17 p.m. and you are wondering what happened to the day.

Focus is not only about discipline.

Focus gets easier when your life stops interrupting you with things it does not trust you to remember later.

When something has a place, a time, an owner, or a process, your brain does not have to keep waving it in front of you.

That is what systems give you.

Keep it human

You do not need to systemize your entire existence.

Please don’t.

Permission

Some things should be spontaneous.

Some days will feel a little messier.

Some systems will need a new way to work.

A woman taking a virtual class online

Some seasons will require completely different rhythms. That is normal. The goal is not to turn yourself into a machine. Sometimes the answer is yes. Life is life. But sometimes you have been solving the same avoidable problem for three years. That one probably needs a system. The goal is to notice the places where you keep saying:

“Why is this always so hard?”

and decide whether it actually needs to be.

focus without expecting life to stop happening
create routines without becoming rigid
make fewer unnecessary decisions
finish what matters
manage the different areas of life more intentionally

The launch group

Want to build this with us from the beginning?

The first Plan to Focus™ Launch Group is coming.

This will be the group closest to the development of the tools, systems, coworking experiences, and resources we are building around the Seven Essential Life Systems™.

If this page felt a little too familiar, you are probably our kind of person.

Add your name to the list and we will let you know when the Launch Group opens.

No pressure. No inbox foolishness. We’ll reach out when there is actually something worth telling you.

Your life deserves structure too

You do not need a perfectly balanced life.

You need a life that knows how to adjust when real life happens.

Systems for the work.

Systems for home.

Systems for the people you love.

Systems for the future you are building.

And enough space left over to actually enjoy some of it.

Your life deserves structure too.
